In Northern Ireland Flood Risk Assessments (FRA) should be carried out by qualified persons with experience in hydrology, river modelling and flood risk. At JKB Consulting flood risk assessments will be carried out by a Chartered Civil Engineer with over 12 years experience in preparing flood risk assessments including river modelling and accurately predicting the flood extents and providing Clients with practical guidance on meeting the requirements of Northern Ireland Flood Risk Planning Policy.
To date we have been successful in gaining DfI River approval for ALL our Northern Ireland Flood Risk Assessments including difficult sites located within the floodplain.
JKB Consulting Engineers has significant experience in providing flood risk assessments and flood risk consultant services for clients throughout Northern Ireland. Under PPS 15 FLD 1 - Development in Fluvial (River) and Coastal Flood Plains Development will not be permitted within the 1 in 100 year fluvial flood plain (AEP7 of 1%) or the 1 in 200 year coastal flood plain (AEP of O.5%) unless the applicant can demonstrate that the proposal constitutes an exception to the policy. JKB Consutling Engineers has successfully argued on a number of planning application the exception rule and secured planning for numerous Clients.
We have over 12 years experience as a flood risk consultant preparing numerous client and site specific flood risk assessments (FRAs) in Northern Ireland (NI) and Ireland.
We have extensive knowledge of Northern Ireland Flood Risk Planning Policy (PPS15) and also the specific policy exceptions for flood risk assessments. Our experience and knowledge ensures that our flood risk assessments (FRAs) satisfy both the Northern Ireland Department of Infrastructure Rivers Agency (DFI Rivers) and the Northern Ireland Department of Infrastructure Planning Service and ensure our client expectations are met.
JKB Consulting Engineers has extensive experience and knowledge in preparing drainage assessments (DAs) in Northern Ireland (NI) to meet the requirements of PPS 15 FLD 3 for both small developments comprising 10 to 15 houses, and large scale developments comprising over 200 houses.
To assist with preparing our drainage assessments we have full design and modelling capabilities, and utilise the latest software including InfoWorks ICM and Causeway Flow to design and model sustainable drainage systems (SuDS). JKB Consulting Engineers as part of the drainage assessment can prepare the necessary DfI Rivers Schedule 6 Discharge Consent and Pre-development enquiry forms. In the past we have succesfully gained discharge consents on a number of complex developments. We also have experience in the preparpation for NI Water Article 161 applications.
Our drainage assessments are site specific and we look at the individual practicalities and cost of the drainage options we propose, to ensure our clients are getting value for money. We also provide the WinDES Drainage Calculation Outputs.
JKB Consulting Engineers has people experienced on working on a number of Northern Ireland reservoirs and have been the author of papers published by ICOLD and the British Dam Society. We also have signifcant experience in providing flood risk assessments to satisfy the requirements of NI Policy PPS 15 FLD 5 - Development in Proximity to Reservoirs.
To date we have been successful in seeking Reservoir Condition Assurance, obtaining planning permission in a number of locations downstream of areas of inudation and provided practical advise to the home owner/developers to satsify the Technical Advice Note (TAN) entitled “The Practical Application of Strategic Planning Policy for ‘Development in Proximity to Reservoirs’.
JKB Consulting has experience in preparing construction method statements and surface water management plans for planning applications to the satisfaction of DAERA. The purpose of construction method statements and surface water management plans is to detail the measures that will be employed during the construction phase to protect the aquatic environment.
